One of the outstanding experiences in Juanita's life was when she had the opportunity to make a month-long trip to Europe in 1965. She took her mother Edna, and her youngest son George, 5 years old at the time along with her. Mom visited many countries including Italy, Germany, France England, Switzerland, and Holland. Her husband John was a first generation American, immigrating with his family from Italy in the 20's. So one of her priorities was to spend a substantial amount of her time in Italy with her husbands relatives. Mom would talk about the communications gap between dad's relatives and her while with them. A lot of times they had to use hand gestures, which the Italians are experts at, to simply understand each other. Even though communications was a challenge meeting her husband's relatives and getting to know them in the old country where he was from was extremely fulfilling and fun for mom.
